inspiration | #knowwhatyourmamasaid is a twitter top trend
i make it a point to keep an eye on what the top trends are on twitter. most people don't care. most people don't even know what twitter is. on the other hand, millions do. i always throw out paris hilton, the jonas brothers and brittney spears. they are trends that are based in nothing but gossip and wanting to be like the rich and famous. however, there are always a few trends that catch my attention. there is a passage of scripture that says this...
proverbs 22:6 | train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.
what stands out to me the most is that the passage says "when he is old". that is comforting. i have a good bit of time to get things right. we all have a good bit of time to work things out. we may stray, we may even try to run -- but mama's voice will hunt and haunt us. that isn't a joke. now, you may go on twitter and see a bunch of sarcastic posts from kids in the their teens and adults in their 20s and 30s, but don't think for a minute that their mama isn't in their head every single day...for better or for worse.
moms and dads set the stage in the home. but it is the mom that i think has the most profound impact. that 9 months in the womb make a bond tighter than we can comprehend. the attitudes, outlook, words, actions -- all of these things combine to train a child whether you want them to or not. a wise guru friend of mine, barry grecu, once said, "children are the worlds best recorders and the worlds WORST interpreters." so true. barry, i might petition that one to be a proberb itself. i pray that i don't have to wait until i'm old to fully grasp the wisdom of my mama. she did it right.
